Day Thirty-Two

The writing moritorium is over, three more stories were critiqued, and then we returned for more enlightment upon some of the key features of writing. I've been working on a story for the primary purpose of practicing some of the topics discussed. I'm one of those who learns by doing rather than my listening, assimilating, taking notes, etc. Math was horrible for me. I had to do problems over and over and over again before I began to grasp the concepts.

I am presently working on evoking with descriptions that require fewer words rather than more.

We went over to Maureen's for M&Ms, beer, soda, etc. I enjoyed the company but abstained on the grounds that I had no desire for another migraine. Tomorrow is my day for the meeting with Greg and Maureen and I get the whole day to myself partially because there are so many stories to go through and partially because they have readings/booksignings/dinner plans. Thus, fitting in another person would be a tight squeeze.

My Granny Greene story now stands at 1,700 words and I have come up with a hopefully plausible recipe for turning one's husband into a zombie. It involves using items which are no longer available in today's society and thus I'm relatively safe from someone testing my theory. Besides, I only listed the ingredients and not the amount.

I've also been working on the revision of the last story critiqued. Tomorrow, they critique the gay Arabian stallion story and I find out just how widely I missed the mark. It is not an emotionally, gut-wrenching piece of emotional fiction. Hopefully, however, the descriptions are better than in some previous stories and the characterization has creeped up a notch. Maybe not. We'll see.
