Day Seven: The Changing Of The Instructors

We critiqued three manuscripts today so now everyone except the person who left temporarily (death in the family) received a critique the first week.

The afternoon was a bit of a nice break and Clarionites decided at the last moment to have a going away/welcome barbeque for Suzy (leaving) and Sean (coming in). Hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers were cooked on the grill and I contributed cinnamon bread. The whole room smells like cinnamon as I type this and I am very mosquito-bitten.

I've started another attempt at a fourth story. This one will be set on Mercury and be hard SF... I hope.

Tomorrow is a day off. Ha! I expect to spend most of the day scratching and writing.

I'm building a lake on Mercury. This story will (I hope) give me some backfill for the colony I'm building on Mercury. In many ways, it's an alternate timeline of the Mercury I'm developing but it's also a good idea to keep certain facts firmly fixed in my mind. 176 days from high noon to high noon. High noon is NOT always in the same place. Peripheleon noon is always the same place and aphelion noon is always the same place but these are different places. The planet is not evenly heated.

I hope I can carry this off to be (1) interesting and (2) not technobabble.

Linda
